Bug Davidson is an artist, filmmaker, and theater director whose experimental works explore media representation, social choreography, and the magic of cinematic gesture. Davidson’s films have screened at multiple festivals and institutions, including the British Film Institute and Anthology Film Archives. They wrote, directed, and toured the evening-length performance work Trinitron Mixtape with support from Fusebox Festival and the National Performance Network, and recently debuted The Game Show at The Contemporary Austin.
Davidson’s current photography project and forthcoming book document Texas cinemas, celebrating the architecture, histories, and communities surrounding these unique spaces. Their practice also includes the creation of media objects, installations, and hybrid forms that explore the relationship between moving images, memory, togetherness, and physical space.
Davidson studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Tufts University, the School of Visual Arts, and the Irish Film Institute in Dublin. They are currently an Assistant Professor of Practice in Media Production at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
